DESCRIPTION:**Partisan Cinema** are proud to present their latest collabora
tion with\nCULTPLEX where we will be screening Jerzy Skolimowski’s 1978 Br
itish\nhorror/thriller **The Shout**. This event will take place at CULTPL
	EX\, 50 Red\nBank\, Cheetham Hill\, Manchester M4 4HF [**Tickets £5/£6 via
Cultplex**][1] The\nShout captures an eerie ethereality like the ammonite
unearthed upon the\nDevonshire shores where it is set. What may seem as o
rdinary and chipper as a\ncricket match\, soon gives way to a tale of a my
sterious wanderer who upends the\nlives of a sound recordist and his wife
by revealing the guttural might of his\neponymous sound.   Having played i
n competition at Cannes in 1978\, The Shout won\nthe coveted Grand Jury Pr
ize that year. Ever since\, it has receded into the\ncanon of cult horror
classics owed to the way Skolimowski adapts the short story\nby Robert Gra
ves to be a sparing\, unsettling supernatural thriller. The score by\nTony
Banks and Mike Rutherford of Genesis\, enhanced by electronics from Ruper
t\nHine\, gives The Shout a sonic signature which cements this as a time c
apsule of\n70s British fear manifest. Following their first collab with Cu
ltplex showing\nRadu Jude’s Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the Wor
ld\, Partisan Cinema is\ndelighted to return with a spooky selection for s
cream season. The Shout is a\nlauded but now under-seen and under-sung hor
ror film from Polish director Jerzy\nSkolimowski whose foray into British
cinema began with his 1970 classic Deep End\nand was bookended by 1982  dr
ama Moonlighting. The Shout encapsulates a roster\nof then-fresh British t
alent from British New Wave star Alan Bates to\nfresh-faced John Hurt and
the late\, great Tim Curry. Join us\, if you dare\, to\nwitness The Shout.
